Hidradenitis Suppurativa
What is it? Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition that causes recurrent, painful lumps, abscesses, and tunnels (sinus tracts) in areas where skin rubs together, like the armpits and groin.
The condition is not contagious and is thought to result from an overactive immune response that affects hair follicles, leading to inflammation and damage over time.
About the LOTUS Study
The LOTUS Study is a clinical research study that is testing an investigational study drug to see if it could help people with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). The study drug will be compared with a placebo, which is an inactive substance sometimes given to participants in a research study. It looks like the study drug but will not have any effect on the medical condition being studied.
Study Details and Participation
The study drug, administered via subcutaneous injection every 2 weeks for a total of 14 weeks. All injections will take place at the study center and will be administered by trained medical professionals.
If it is determined you are eligible to join the study, a computer will randomly decide, like flipping a coin, whether you receive the study drug or placebo. You will have a 67% chance (2 in 3) of receiving the study drug, and a 33% chance (1 in 3) of receiving placebo.
